2. Interview Sign-up
Tuesday, November 8 – Friday, January 20, 2012
After the information meetings, interested students must schedule an interview.
Contact Prince of Wales Secondary – Main Office (not the TREK office) in person or by phone (604-713-8974).
Note: All interested students will receive an interview.
3. Student Interviews (1.5 hours in duration)
Monday, January 23, 2012 Start times: 4:00 pm; 5:30 pm; or 7:00 pm
or Tuesday, January 24, 2012 Start times: 4:00 pm; 5:30 pm; or 7:00 pm
or Wednesday, January 25, 2012 Start times: 4:00 pm; 5:30 pm; or 7:00 pm
or Thursday, January 26, 2012 Start times: 4:00 pm; 5:30 pm; or 7:00 pm
Note: These are group interviews (approx. 20 students and 2 teachers per interview).
Please bring the following to the student interview:
- completed Application Form
- proof of address – a photocopy of any 2 of the following: property tax notice, rental agreement, phone bill, hydro bill, gas bill, bank statement, driver’s liscense.
- photocopy of Grade 8 Report Card (Final) including teacher comments
- photocopy of Grade 9 Report Card (1st Term) including teacher comments
- completed VSB Student School Transfer Form (for all non-PW students) please complete sections A – F; white copy stays at present school
- 2 completed Reference Letter Forms (in sealed envelopes)
Note #1: failure to submit all documents, on time, will result in the
disqualification of your application.
Note #2: applicants must be wearing their PE strip and running shoes for
the interview.
What happens during the student interview?
These are group interviews (approx. 20 students & 2 teachers per interview)
1. collection of forms; 2. orientation to the TREK Program;
3. in-class writing exercise; 4. the TREK challenge (an initiative task);
5. a 2.4 km timed run
4. Random Draw
The TREK Program receives more applications than the 112 spaces that are available each year. Therefore, following the interview process, all applications that meet the minimum requirements are placed in a random draw. This draw is performed in early February by the Principal of Prince of Wales Secondary School. We aim for a 50/50 split of females and males. We do not recruit or pre-select students.
A subsequent draw will be performed if any applications are withdrawn prior to commencement of the program. If this occurs, the successful applicant will be notified immediately.
5. Notification of Acceptance
Mailed out Wednesday, February 15, 2012
All applicants (both successful and unsuccessful) will be notified. No phone calls please.
6. Confirmation of Acceptance
Successful applicants must submit the following by Friday, February 24, 2012
- Contact Information Form (sent with acceptance package)
- Student Enrolment Record Form (sent with acceptance package)
- Course Selection Form (sent with acceptance package)
- $50.00 non-refundable deposit
7. Notification of Course Timetable
Mailed out early June, 2012
This mail out will include notification of on-TREK and off-TREK term placement.
8. Summer Submissions
Successful applicants must submit the following by Friday, August 10, 2012
Items can be dropped off at, or mailed to, the main school office (Attn: TREK Program)
- photocopy of final Grade 9 Report including teacher comments
- Medical Form (sent with acceptance package)
- Including completed tetanus inoculation and B.C. Carecard sections of the form
- Acknowledgement of Risk & Informed Consent Form (sent with package)
- final payment of TREK Tuition ($550.00)
